The Role of Video Conferencing in Co-working
Tuesday, December 13th, 2011Ever since Bernie DeKoven first used the term ‘co-working’ back in 1999, it has been adopted throughout the whole World.
Many freelancers and one-person business owners work from home but the isolation as well as the distractions that many of these people feel can be solved by becoming a member of a co-working community. A co-working community often starts when a group of people meet and spend many hours working with each other at a place like a coffee shop or café that offers wi-fi services.
What is Video Conferencing?
Video conferencing is essentially a set of technologies that allow for video and audio to be sent/received and allow for two or more parties to communicate with each other simultaneously. Each person or group of people in the room will be equipped with a microphone and this coupled with a camera allows for a group of people to communicate with each other wherever they are in the World. One of the major benefits of video conferencing is that there is no longer any need to spend hundreds if not thousands of pounds on travel and lodging expenses nor does the person have to waste valuable time travelling when they could be using that time to work.
How Can Video Conferencing Help the Co-working Community?
Video conferencing can be a nice little addition to the tools that the co-working community have since it can drastically reduce the amount of time needed to meet with clients or customers. Video conferencing also creates a professional atmosphere which means that it can be used as a tool to help close sales. Many entrepreneurs are very conscious when it comes to their time and how they use it. They will appreciate the extra time that is saved by carrying out a meeting via a video conferencing system rather than actually travelling to get to a meeting.
