Brazilian President Luis Ignacio Lula ad Silva, said that if Brazil had been responsible for oil spills in the Gulf of Mexico and have been widely criticized by developed countries.
“I find it funny how the press is one of those things. Imagine the scandal that the developed world against us would have done if he had been the (Brazilian oil company) Petrograd, or if it was here in Gambaro Bay (opposite the port of Rio Janeiro), “said the president in his speech at a public event.
Petrograd, which also operates in the Gulf of Mexico, extracts more than 90% of Brazilian oil and marine areas is one of the most technology companies in the world in deepwater operations.
Brazilian state oil company was responsible in January 2000 of a spill of about 292 thousand tons of crude oil in the Gambaro Bay, which caused a serious environmental tragedy in Rio de Janeiro and left without a livelihood for thousands of anglers.
The accident was caused by the rupture of an undersea pipeline that fed the Toque de Cadies refinery, Petrograd operates in the outskirts of Rio de Janeiro.
The spill was considered at the time as the biggest environmental tragedy in many years in Brazil and Petrograd became the target of numerous national and international criticisms.
The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico, which began in April but until now has forecast when you can be arrested, is the responsibility of the oil company British Petroleum (BP).
The U.S. authorities and called it “arguably the worst ecological disaster” in U.S. history.
